John Constable, Cloud Study, c. 1821–22
Constable spent two summers on Hampstead Heath painting nothing but the sky. He worked fast, outdoors, trying to catch clouds before they changed, and often noted the date, time and wind direction on the back. Studies like this one were never meant for exhibition. Today they're some of his most admired works, and they feel surprisingly modern for paintings made two centuries ago.
The painting is printed on the back with a gallery-style label, with the ADDITIONARCHIVE wordmark on the front. Printed to order, so nothing is made until you buy it. Less waste, no unsold stock.
